About Us
Hands & Feet of Jesus Christ in Butler, Indiana
Our Mission
Roots of Giving is committed to meeting the most basic need for individuals and families in DeKalb County — access to food. Food insecurities create undue stress and anxiety for those struggling to keep food on their tables. When this basic need is met, families and children feel safe, supported and can begin to live, rather than simply survive.
Our Story
Founded on the principle of being the “Hands and Feet of Jesus Christ,” Roots of Giving grew from a simple calling: to serve our neighbors in Butler, Indiana with compassion, dignity, and hope.
What began as a community effort to address hunger in DeKalb County has grown into a food pantry that serves families every week, provides snack packs for children, and runs educational programs on food preparation and management. Every action we take is rooted in giving.

Led by Melinda Evers
Executive Director
Under Melinda’s leadership, Roots of Giving has expanded its reach across DeKalb County, launched the annual 5K fundraiser, and is working toward building a permanent facility for the food pantry.

“What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”
— James 2:14–17
